A while back group TDL released quite a messy DVD Screener of this film. There was an extreme amount of watermarks and property of messages that made it almost unwatchable. There were also hardcoded spanish subs, so PUKKA have now propered their release with a really nice 2 CD release. The last film I saw Julianne Moore in was that Clive Owen film with the last pregnant woman in the world. Dont remember the name but she was good in it, so I have no doubt she’ll be good in this one too.

Quality: This one looks a hell of a lot cleaner. Just compare THIS sample (TDL release) to THIS SAMPLE (This PUKKA release). If you arent bothered downloading both samples, just check THIS comparison image out.

Synopsis: A city is ravaged by an epidemic of instant “white blindness”. Those first afflicted are quarantined by the authorities in an abandoned mental hospital where the newly created “society of the blind” quickly breaks down. Criminals and the physically powerful prey upon the weak, hording the meager food rations and committing horrific acts.

That’s as may be bud, but John Wyndham wrote Triffids back in 1951, with a story based on people going blind overnight, I’m merely saying its possibly inspired by it:D

Great screener…no black and white screens, excellent video as well as audio…Good movie I highly recommend it, I have a new found respect for blind people…warning film contains several scenes with nudity may not be good to watch with children around

This movie is based on the book "Ensaio sobre a Cegueira" by José Saramago. This portuguese writer published the book in 1995.

I had the chance to read it but only in german where it is called "Stadt der Blinden". I was horrified and curious at the same time, I couldn’t really take a break. So, I finished it at once.

Anyway, the book was very good and I hope the movie takes over the oppressive feelings the book could give you.
