I was looking for something to watch since TV is on holiday and I finished watching all the movies, very sad I know. Stumbled upon Saturday Night Live Season Five and since it wasn’t posted I thought some of you might be interested as well. Those who like Bill Murray can see him in action when he was a youngster. Well… everybody is still young in these episodes from music guest to actors to comedians. This will surely kill a few hours. OSiTV have released a DVDRip of all episodes, enjoy!

Synopsis: Saturday Night Live aired its fifth season during the 1979–1980 television season on NBC. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd left the show at the end of the fourth season, leaving a void in the cast that most fans thought would be the beginning of the end for the late-night sketch show. Future Simpsons voice actor Harry Shearer, as well as many of SNL’s writers, were hired to be replacements. By 1980, all of the cast and writers, including Lorne Michaels, grew tired of the show and planned on ending it in May. NBC, on the other hand, wasn’t about to let the successful series slip through their fingers and planned on keeping the show going with a new cast, new writers, and a new executive producer (a practice that initially spelled doom for the show, but has since become the secret to the show’s longevity). Al Franken was originally considered to be season six’s executive producer, but after a scathing “Weekend Update” commentary about Fred Silverman (“A Limo for the Lame-O”), Franken was dropped. The fifth season started on October 13, 1979 and ended on May 24, 1980.

HAGGiS have a very early release of Gavin and Stacy Series Three, and when we say early we mean it as it’s still airing on the BBC now. I think this is one of the funnies tv shows the BBC have put on and it’s a shame that these series only have 6 episodes in but still it’s awesome! Enjoy!

Stacey is in her element, but will this finally be the solution to the couple’s long-distance problem? And how will Gavin take to living in Wales? Smithy questions their friendship along with his own role as father – and with Dave Coaches on the scene and now engaged to Nessa, will Smithy find himself pushed out of the frame? How will life in a caravan work out for Nessa and her soon-to-be husband Dave? aAF brings us the fourth season DVDRips of Robot Chicken, the awesome US late-night stop-motion animation show. It’s the highest rated original show on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block and it’s not hard to see why – stop wasting time reading this and go grab the episodes now! Also, since we’re on the subject, the extras on the Robot Chicken DVDs are always comedy gold – you might want to hunt down the actual DVDs (or grab the DVDRs when they are released) and check the extras out as I doubt they will be released separately. Oh and keep an eye out for the fifth season which should hit Adult Swim sometime in 2010. Enjoy!

Show Summary: Robot Chicken is an American stop motion animated television series created and executive produced by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich along with co-Head Writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root. Besides Seth Green voicing himself and many of the characters for the show, a large number of celebrities also contribute their voices. The show focuses on mocking pop culture, referencing toys, films, television, and popular fads. One particular motif often involves the idea of fantastical characters being placed in a more realistic world or situation (such as Stretch Armstrong requiring a corn syrup transplant after losing his abilities due to aging, Optimus Prime performing a prostate cancer PSA, and Godzilla having problems in the bedroom). The program even had two episodes dedicated to Star Wars which featured the voices of Star Wars notables George Lucas, Mark Hamill (from a previous episode), Billy Dee Williams, and Ahmed Best. Another recurring segment is “Hilarious Bloopers”, a parody of the Bob Saget era of America’s Funniest Home Videos featuring the host constantly moving around in various exaggerated, disjointed motions. Unlike that show, this skit ends with the host using various household methods to commit suicide.

iNGOT brings us the fifth season DVDRips of Top Chef, the US reality cooking show. Hells Kitchen and Masterchef are where I draw the line at reality cooking so I haven’t actually watched this, but it seems to get decent ratings and would appear to be reasonably popular. Might be worth checking out, and don’t forget that season six is currently airing on BRAVO. Enjoy!

Show Summary: Top Chef is a reality show unlike any other – it searches for the world’s next top chef. Each week a talented group of chefs, professionally trained and self-taught, will be challenged and judged by some of the best known chefs in the industry. Each episode of Top Chef holds two challenges for the chefs. The first is a “quickfire” test of their ability to think outside of the box and create something new, interesting and tasty, all while under the pressure of very little time. The second is a more involved elimination challenge designed to test the versatility and invention of the chefs as they take on unique culinary trials such as working with unusual and exotic foods or catering for a range of demanding clients. The food will be tasted and evaluated by the host and judges, but will also be served to the customers for whom the challenge is aimed, whether it be patrons at a five star restaurant or a room full of hungry kids. Food has to appeal to the diner as well as the critics if the chef is to survive. The winning chef will receive $100,000 in seed money to help encourage their culinary career, be featured in Food & Wine magazine, appear at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, and most importantly, earn the prestigious title of “Top Chef”.

P0W4DVD brings us the first season DVDRips of Krod Mandoon, the UK/USA comedic sword and sorcery series. Not much to say here as I never bothered with it when it was airing, but after reading a couple of reviews it would appear that you’re more likely to fall asleep rather than laugh when watching it. Meh. It’s here if you want it. Enjoy!

Show Summary: The series follows a reluctant hero named Kröd Mändoon. The often underconfident freedom fighter is the last great hope in the struggle against an evil ruler known as Chancellor Dongalor. To help in his fight, Kröd has assembled a band of remarkably useless fighters. Together, they must overcome a variety of evil obstacles in a quest to save their world.

PFa brings us the first season DVDRips of Dave In The Life, an Australian reality/documentary series. It’s similar to Louis Theroux’s Wild Weekends and is actually pretty entertaining, although Dave’s attempts at wit and humour often fall flat and make him look like a bit of a retard. Still, it might be worth checking this one out – if you like Louis then you might like Dave too. Enjoy!

Show Summary: If there’s someone who’s been criticised, marginalised or under public scrutiny, Dave wants to get to know them and get under their skin. In every episode, in his own quirky and comic way, Dave experiences the life of someone else. He wants to be Dave in the life a gang member; a sports hero; a sex entrepreneur; a hunter; a politician; a pensioner; a radio shock jock; a controversial artist, and more. He’ll live with them, eat with them, go to work with them and genuinely attempt to walk several kilometers in their shoes. And that will often involve some very amusing challenges. However, “Dave in the Life” is more than just light-hearted fun. The series is a journey into some great “Aussie divides” – exploring the serious social issues, myths, themes and topical stories of modern Australia. Through the characters Dave embeds himself with, and the challenges he faces along the way, contradictions arise and entrenched public views are exposed. “Dave in the Life” will hold up a mirror to us all.

P0W4DVD brings us the fourth season DVDRips of Law And Order: Criminal Intent, the second spin-off of the original Law And Order series. I don’t watch any of them so I can’t comment too much, but Criminal Intent finished airing its eighth season earlier this year and has been picked up for a ninth season in 2010 so I guess they have a decent fan-base out there somewhere. I included the P0W4DVD INTERNALs to complete the season below, but if you can’t find those they were released by WiDE also. Enjoy!

Show Summary: Criminal Intent is the second spin-off of the long-running crime drama Law & Order and follows a distinct division of the New York City Police Department: the “Major Case Squad”. The Major Case Squad investigates high-profile cases such as those involving VIPs, local government officials and employees, the financial industry, and the art world; though sometimes the cases are similar to the cases from the original Law & Order show as well. Unlike the other shows in the Law & Order franchise, as of Season 5 Criminal Intent episodes typically alternate between two teams of detectives: Team A episodes chronicle the cases of Robert Goren and Alexandra Eames, while team B episodes follow the exploits of Zach Nichols and Megan Wheeler. Originally, team B followed Mike Logan and his partners, Carolyn Barek, Megan Wheeler, and Nola Falacci. The series also gives significant attention to the actions and motives of the criminals, rather than focusing exclusively on the police and prosecution, and the information they have, as in the other Law & Order series. A feature of each Criminal Intent episode is that the cold open always involves a series of cut-scenes that show events from the suspects’ and victims’ lives, leading up to the crime. Clues to the crime’s eventual solution can often be found in this teaser sequence. Criminal Intent episodes do not usually contain trials. Unlike other Law & Order series, most Criminal Intent episodes end in confessions rather than plea bargains or verdicts.

NODLABS and P0W4DVD bring us DVDRips of the fifth season of Rescue Me, an awesome FX drama similar in style to The Shield and Sons Of Anarchy – you should definitely check this one out if you haven’t already. NODLABS released the first half of Season 5 earlier this year and now P0W4DVD have released the second half. Oh and keep an eye out for Season 6 which will return sometime in 2010. Enjoy!

Show Summary: Rescue Me is a drama about the inner workings of 62 Truck of the New York Fire Department and the men that comprise its firehouse. It can, at times, be a dark look at what kind of person it takes to forgo his own personal well-being and run into a burning building while others are running out. It also looks into the fraternal relationship that each shares with each other because few can understand what it’s like to stare death in the eyes and not blink. It’s these relationships that begin to define them. Sometimes, it begins to be a detriment to their family lives. The series revolves around Tommy Gavin, a firefighter who must deal with the constant struggles with his estranged family, ex-wife, Janet, his alcoholic past, and the loss of his young son, Connor. The stress and fear of his job causes Tommy to see visions of the people he has seen perish and of his cousin, Jimmy O’Keefe, who lost his life at the World Trade Center on that fateful day in 2001. We follow Tommy as everything he has ever believed in is challenged and he must face who he really is. Others in his firehouse include Franco Rivera, a womanizing, superb firefighter who would do anything for his young daughter, Keela. Lt. Kenneth “Lou” Shea is a fierce and respected leader who is recently divorced and was a victim of a beautiful young woman who conned him. Chief Jerry Reilly is coming to terms with his wife’s condition and his son’s sexuality. Sean Garrity and the Probie, Mike Silletti, round out the other firefighters in the house on Tommy’s crew. Though their lives are flawed, there is no one else that you would want running in after you if you are trapped with a wall of fire all around you.

FoV brings us DVDRips of the second season of The Thick Of It, a dark political UK comedy. I can’t say I’ve ever watched an episode, but based on positive reviews and the fact it’s partly improvised, it looks pretty decent. As this is a short season (3 episodes) I’ve also included the 2 DVDRip Specials that were released by iNGOT earlier this year. You might also want to check out the third season which is currently airing on BBC FOUR. Enjoy!

Show Summary: The Thick of It is a British comedy television series, which satirises the inner workings of modern British government. Set in the corridors of power and spin, the series follows the career of Hugh Abbot, the new Minister for Social Affairs, who is continually harassed by Number 10’s policy enforcer and dependent on his not-so-reliable team of civil servants. Written by some of Britain’s top comic talents and shot in a gritty, improvised style, The Thick of It is compulsive, hilarious and often painful viewing.

REWARD brings us DVDRips of the first (and only) season of Mental. I never bothered to watch this when it was airing, but from what I’ve read it sounds like a poor-man’s House – which is probably why FOX cancelled it after 13 episodes. Not really something I can recommend, but it’s here if you want to check it out anyway. Enjoy!

Show Summary: Mental is a medical drama that explores the complexities of the human mind as never before. When Dr. Jack Gallagher, a dynamic and radically unorthodox psychiatrist, is named Director of Mental Health Services at a Los Angeles hospital, his unconventional style leads some of his new colleagues to believe he may be as unstable as his patients. To Jack, each case is a puzzle to be solved. Confronted with each patient’s crisis, including unknown, misunderstood, and even misdiagnosed conditions, Jack must plunge inside the mind of his patients long enough to uncover what might be the key to their long-term recovery, often times working against the clock and his patients’ wishes. Ever the rebel, Jack insists on getting to the root of his patients’ illnesses by exploring first who they are as human beings, but as he fights to help his patients quickly, he must often work within only a legal 72-hour hold to determine a diagnosis. Jack must reconcile his effective, yet highly unconventional practices with his conservative boss, hospital administrator Nora Skoff, who puts her own reputation on the line by hiring him. Unfortunately, his colleagues remain resistant to his treatment methods, including dedicated psychiatrist Dr. Veronica Hayden-Jones, who was passed over for Jack’s position, and Dr. Carl Belle, a master politician with a polished exterior who is dedicated to Jack’s downfall.

REWARD brings us the first season DVDRips of Better Off Ted. It’s a nice little comedy with some clever writing and a decent cast. Worth checking this one out if you’re in the mood for a laugh. Oh, and Season 2 premieres on ABC on December 8th. Enjoy!

Show Summary: For Veridian Dynamics, no idea is too out of reach. From suicidal turkeys to edible steel, they can do it all. As the head of the research and development department, Ted Crisp loves every day on the job. He loves his boss, Veronica; loves working with colleagues Lem, Phil and Linda; and loves turning the impossible into the plausible. But with his job come hazy ethical boundaries. As Ted always says: “Work’s not a question of right or wrong. It’s only about success or failure.” Luckily for Ted, he has his daughter Rose to keep him in line, but it’s not easy being a single dad and taking ideas one could only dream of and making them a reality.

Now that the US remake of The Prisoner has ended, this is a good opportunity to re-visit the original UK series from 1967. It’s interesting to see that while the remake has been given a beating by the critics, the original series is still considered to have held up rather well even after 40+ years. Standard DVDRips are available (The.Prisoner.S01.DVDRip.XviD-SAiNTS) as are the ultra-nice 1080p BluRay rips (The.Prisoner.1967.S01.1080p.BluRay.x264-CiNEFiLE). Definately worth checking this one out, especially in 720p or higher. Enjoy!

Show Summary: The series follows an unnamed British agent who abruptly resigns his job, and then finds himself held captive in a mysterious seaside “village” that is isolated from the mainland by mountains and sea. The Village is further secured by numerous monitoring systems and security forces, including a mysterious device called Rover that captures those who attempt escape. The agent encounters the Village’s population, hundreds of people from all walks of life and cultures, all seeming to be tranquilly living out their lives. As they do not use names, they have each been assigned a number, related to their importance in the Village’s power structure. The agent is told by the Village authority he is “Number Six”, and they are seeking “information” as to why he resigned; the task of doing this is carried by the ever-changing “Number Two”, acting as the Village’s chief administrator and proxy to the unseen “Number One”. Number Six, distrusting of anyone involved with the Village, refuses to give such answers while at the same time trying to learn for which side the Village works, remaining defiant to authority while concocting his own plans to escape or learn more about the Village. Some of his schemes, while not resulting in an escape, do lead to the dismissal of an incumbent Number Two on two occasions. At the end of the series, the administration becomes desperate for Number Six’s information, and more drastic measures follow that threaten the lives of Number Six, Number Two, and the rest of the Village.

aAF have released season three DVD rips of the award-winning Australian satirical current affairs show “The Chaser’s War On Everything”, including the DVD extras. This is one of only two Australian shows that I have ever enjoyed, the second being Good Game. The stunts and skits that they do on this show are simply hilarious and will leave your sides hurting, sadly the show will not be returning for a fourth season, although anything could happen in the future…

Show Summary: After an 18-month ceasefire, the Chaser team returns with an all-new series of The Chaser’s War on Everything. The 8-episode season sees the team escalating their assault on politicians, business leaders and the media.

George W. Bush waged a war on terror, but only The Chaser has had the vision and courage to wage a War On Everything.

For some reason this show has never had the pleasure of being posted on ZeroSec, HAGGiS released the season three DVD rips yesterday ahead of the last episode of the season airing last night and three days before its retail release next Monday. But I have to give it up to FoV for releasing PDTV of the last episode despite HAGGiS’ release, they need to learn to dupecheck, and while their at it change their annoying (but historical) directory naming.

Show Summary: Slap on the sun lotion, reserve the best pool lounger and get ready for six brand new episodes of fun and frolics at the all-inclusive Solana resort in Benidorm. Our holidaymakers are all back; Is it the sun? Is it the sea? Is it the sangria? No, it’s a free holiday, as compensation for last year’s hostage ordeal and you can’t say ‘no’ to that. Mel’s here on business this time and is opening a mobility scooter shop, so Mick’s been roped in to help whether he likes it or not. Janice does her best to stop the family from throttling each other, while the Oracle’s mission to find true love throws up some unusual encounters. Martin surprises the other guests by returning not with Kate but with Liverpudlian live wire Brandy, who’s determined to spice up things at The Solana Apartments. It’s another year of difficulties, disasters and plenty of laughs for our favourite Brits abroad. Some new faces check in – some welcome, and some distinctly not – but all ready to cause waves around the pool.

HAGGiS brings us the DVDRips of season one of Last Chance To See. For a travel/wildlife documentary this actually looks pretty interesting, and the fact it stars Stephen Fry automatically earns it some points. It might be worth checking this one out, especially if you’re a docu fan (and/or a Fry fan). Enjoy!

Show Summary: Twenty years after HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY writer Douglas Adams and his friend, naturalist, Mark Carwardine travelled the globe in search of endangered animals (the progress of which was documented in the popular BBC radio series and companion book LAST CHANCE TO SEE), their amazing journey is retraced and reevaluated in this fascinating TV series. Adams’ death in 2001 sadly put an end to the duo’s adventures, so this series sees his longtime friend, comedy legend Stephen Fry take up the challenge. Fry and Carwardine barely knew each other which makes their initial mission to find the Amazonian Manatee endearingly awkward, with both clearly intimidated by each others’ vast knowledge. But the elusive manatee is just the tip of the iceberg, other episodes follow the trail of the Northern White Rhino, man-eating Komodo dragons, a flightless parrot, man’s closest living relative, the pygmy chimpanzee and much more. As the pair re-investigate the disappearing animals of the world, the series highlights the worrying immediacy of extinction and what can be done to help prevent it.
