For those of you unfamiliar with Sir David Attenborough, he is one of the most famous naturalists in the world. This new release is about the fact of evolution which is a fascinating subject to me and really should be to all of us since it explains our origins. You can actually watch this documentary in HD on youtube if you can’t be bothered to download it. Enjoy.
Quality: Very high both video and audio wise.
Synopsis: Charles Darwin and the Tree of Life is a 2009 television documentary about Charles Darwin and his revolutionary theory of evolution through natural selection, produced by the BBC to mark the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth. It is part of the BBC Darwin Season. The presenter, David Attenborough, outlines the development of the theory by Darwin through his observations of animals and plants in nature and in the domesticated state, visiting sites important in Darwin’s own life, including Down House, Cambridge University and the Natural History Museum, and using archive footage from Attenborough’s many nature documentaries for the BBC. He reviews the development of the theory since its beginnings, and its revolutionary impact on the way in which humans view themselves - not as having dominion over the animals as The Bible says, but as part of the natural world and subject to the same controlling forces that govern all life on Earth.

So evolution is a ‘fact’? How is that possible? It’s a whole bunch of theories based on other theories?
And btw, last I knew, David Attenborough is not of royal lineage, so Sir is not exactly applicable in his case.

They’re both theories. Whether we are ape descendants or were dropped from the heavens, it’s all not proven. Hell, Doesn’t Scientology believe in Aliens that dropped us off and left us brainwashed? I think Tom Cruise is still calling his mothership.

Silly, silly child Mr. "User." Whether you call it a theory or even a "law," it’s still accepted. Sir Isaac Newton came up with 4 Laws of Reasoning but that doesn’t mean they are going to stay permanent. We also have to be careful not to be Whiggish and stay away from judging science as neither good nor bad science. Evolution is an accepted theory that has been proven, yes proven, using Mendelian genetics and through experiments in biology.
Secondly, you do NOT have to be a royal to be knighted!!

wat im sayin is the tiny changes in equine evolution dont mean an amoeba could turn into an amphibian turn into a mammal turn into a monkey turn into a human.. cmon!!! There is no evidence of this at all lol. We are alien hybryd creatures. There are fossilised human footprints dated to 3,000,000 (3 MILLION) years ago….eee. Whatever one classes as "proof" or "truth", I’ll certainly take the opinions of intelligent, humble and cosmically curious people who devote their lives to knowledge, over small-minded simpletons who cite half-a$$ed hypotheticals to support their personal biases.
If you think you have proof that evolution theory is invalid, ffs go score your Nobel prize instead of trolling around forums and spreading ignorance. Try a bit of research and critical thinking instead of talking out of your butt.

erm.. there are LOTS of cooperative species. Think of bees and flower pollen. Symbiotic bacterium in your gut. Pilot fish. Buffalo and Oxpeckers. Lots and lots and lots of examples. What’s so hard to believe about that?
People seem to think that if it "sounds intelligent" then it must be God. Meh, who knows and who cares, we’ll all find out when we die, right? But if we go around killing each other about it, I daresay He won’t be too pleased.
It doesn’t amaze me that people believe in a higher power. But it stuns me people are so quick to believe killing people will make their God happy. The fault doesn’t lie with religion! It lies with the people who control it and teach violence in its name. Religion isn’t bad. Science isn’t bad. PEOPLE are bad. End of story.
Whoever says religion is the cause of our woes is completely missing the point, wasting his breath and not helping anyone or anything.
That being said, criticising science is just as bad. They aren’t mutually exclusive, never were and never will be. People of all faiths have contributed enormously to scientific discovery. People of all faiths have also caused untold bloodshed.
It’s down to the individual to be a good person and criticise their *leaders* when they start preaching hate.
Religion and science, both, are about inspiration and truth. Neither of them are a "source" of violence and oppression. Individual sociopathic leaders are usually the source of all our troubles.
The common person just wants to live a good life, raise their family and prosper, no matter what religion they are. We have so much to learn from our differences instead of cursing them! God forbid the world becomes homogeneous and staid, that will be as much a tragedy as the mutual destruction we seem to have now.
There is a middle road, if we chill out and let it happen.

Religion and science were never mutually exclusive huh? Religion isn’t the cause it’s just one of them. And while it might not be so bad in itself it’s easily used in the reasons and some events that have lead to oppression and violence towards people. Religion being exclusively about inspiration and truth *tilts head* yeah dunno about that either. People aren’t all bad either. Some are and some are not.
Anyways, I’m very yay evolution but @ 11 ReeGed…..no it doesn’t….it’s still JUST a well supported theory. In science there’s no facts something is either well supported or it fails….. so yeah very well-supported and accepted…still a theory. The go over differences in law, theory, and so one in like intro biology.

To the people that post that evolution is just a theory as is creationism. Yes, but you are saying half of the sentence. Evolution is a theory backed by literally millions of facts, whereas creationism (and inteligent design) is a theory backed by wishful thinking.
Evolution is covered well by the following two books if you really want to learn about it:
Why Evolution Is True by Jerry A. Coyne
The Greatest Show on Earth by Richard Dawkins (out in some parts of the world, but no the US yet).
There you will see responses to EVERY query any creationist has ever given about evolution.
Please stop harping on about questions that have already been answered time and time gain. You are only showing your ignorance and intellectual laziness.
