Not true, I tried other download managers and Idm is the best. For some reason its faster then any other download manager. Atleast with my connection.

Got to agree, have used down them all, free download manager and orbit. All are good products considering the price!!

IDM is just that bit better though. It integrates with rapidshare better than the others also it’s a fairly polished product. Down them all is okay but does not offer the same excelleration (concurrent threads). Free download manager is actually the core app in a lot of commercial download managers. It does its job but is unnatractive, often unintuitive and has quite a few annoying omissions like why the hell do you have to download an addon to preview file size? Moronic.. Orbit is the best of the bunch but once again it’s not as good as IDM, it does not integrate so well with firefox and requires flashgot to work effectively.

Ahh, basically, IDM is the best..

FDM maxes my line speed, soooo, how can this one be better? This program and FDM, and every other download manager known to man all do the exact same thing… Split the download into sections and download them simultaneously. If you aren’t getting your line speed maxed with FDM, you either a) have it configured incorrectly, or b) the file server is not providing enough bandwith to max your speed.

I was an FDM user for about a year. It was a very nice manager, lightweight, some cool features, especially the BT support but the app felt like it was abandoned by even it’s developers. No updates, some bugs while integrating on FF3 or Chrome.
Also during the last days of it’s use I got some lower speeds while downloading. I know how to set it up correctly but when I switched to IDM I noticed a minor increase in speeds up to 5%. Now that may sound trivial to some, but to a person whose time is money that’s a pretty big improvement.
If the development of FDM ever comes back, I’ll gladly give it another try. Till then I enjoy IDM’s faster speed.

PS:WRATH’s release is blacklisted for still having the registration problem

5% faster speed could just be the server, and have nothing to do with the download manager. Rapidshare speeds fluctuate largely depending on which server a file is located on.

My point is, IDM is commercial software, and does something that you can get for free. So why not use the free version (FDM)? I’m not saying never download anything from zerosec, but come on, at least take the legal/free alternative when there is one available….

I’m just trying to show people who are NOT currently using IDM, that there is a free+legal alternative…

The 5% speed was a standard increase. In example, I was downloading standard speeds 400kb/s with FDM while I got the same file on the same server (more specifically rapidshare’s TeliaSonera3) at 420kb/s. Though I agree with your point of showing a free and legal alternative 110%. It’s not that FDM is bad cause it’s free, it’s good cause it’s both FREE and good at what it does. But most people tend to put their faith where money are rolling (hence the IDM preference) even though they want to do it for free, kinda of a paradox really.

I’m hoping you mean kB? Still, a change that small could be from a number of variables. I’d hardly base my preference on 1 test, or else there would be a whole lot of software I would not be using right now.

Heck, even if you always got that much faster speed. That would only save you about a minute off a half hour download. btw, is your line speed 420?

I don’t think IDM is significantly faster than the others, I quite agree that download speed should be maxed regardles of which manager you use. The point is it’s a really polished nice program with great support. FDM certainly is not.

Seriously, use them each for a couple of days and you will see that IDM is just better.

So much so infact that I don’t even mess about finding a new crack every few months as I bought it!!!!! Now thats a freakin endorsement.
