Herz an interesting Brazilian movie ARISCO released, the story is based on the 2000 hijacking of a bus in Rio de Janeiro. There have been some good movies comming out of Brazil in recent years like City of God, Tropa de elite and this one looks pretty good too. The movie was selected as Brazil’s nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards [2009] and was also the opening movie of the 2008 Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. The audio language is Portuguese, but the release has English subs included, which I’v attached below.

Quality: A lil poor by DVD-rip standards, but that could be because of the DVD-source itself.

Synopsis:Brazil. When Marisa is unable to pay a debt, her baby, Alessandro, is taken away from her by a drug dealer. After cleaning up her act, she becomes determined to find her child. On the outskirts of Rio, another boy, Sandro, finds his mother stabbed to death in her shop. He runs away, intent on reaching Copacabana, where his mother once promised to take him. Once there, Sandro befriends some street kids who sweep him up into a world of drug use and dealing. After becoming a hardened survivor of the Candelaria massacre (an attempt by Rio police to clean up the city by murdering street kids as they slept), he eventually finds himself in a juvenile detention home. It is there that he meets Marisa’s long-lost boy, Alessandro. Marisa meanwhile finds her way to the center, and mistakes Sandro for her own son. Despite her efforts to help him, Sandro cannot escape his hard reality, and ultimately becomes the hostage-taker on Bus 174.

You got an extra o on Tropa de Elite (this is the right way to spell it)

There are some other good brazilian films you might want to check out like "O Homem que copiava" (this one’s really good but hard to find, http://images.imdb.de/title/tt0367859/) and "O Homem que desafiou o Diabo" (not so good but still a good watch http://images.imdb.de/title/tt0933033/)

@ 5 what do you mean lower the standard of the site? It’s not up to you to try to dictate this site…. this isn’t your site. If everything the post isn’t your taste then make your own site or don’t watch it. @12 - yeah, it is a drama based on Bus 174, the documentary, but this "version" is not a bit good as the documentary. The movie just ignores essential parts of the original history and makes this movie looks like just a series of stereotypes, reaffirming the image created abroad about Brazil.
Go for Ônibus 174, it is a really great documentary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0340468/) and it’s from the same director of Tropa de Elite.
