The story isn’t something I am very interested in plus the movie is produced by the one and only Oprah Winfrey so it is a no go for me. Basically, the movie is about an obese, illiterate girl who gets abused by her father and mother. It’s a drama not a documentary so I don’t see any entertainment or informational value in it. In my opinion, the movie would go under the radar if it wasn’t publicized by Oprah. I am not even sure what Mariah Carey is doing in it. This DVD screener is released by DOMiNO. I guess download and watch it?

Quality: Good audio and video quality. Has a blurry line at the bottom.

Synopsis: In 1987, obese, illiterate 16-year-old Claireece “Precious” Jones lives in the New York City neighborhood of Harlem with her dysfunctional family; she has been raped and impregnated twice by her father, Carl, and suffers constant physical and mental abuse from her unemployed mother, Mary. The family resides in a Section 8 tenement and subsists on welfare. Her first child, known only as “Mongo”, has Down Syndrome and is being cared for by Precious’s grandmother. After Precious becomes pregnant for the second time, she is suspended from school but her junior high school principal, Mrs. Lichtenstein, arranges to have her attend an alternative school, which she hopes can help Precious change her life’s direction.

@ exhustler70 are you watching the Devise version of the film or the Domino version of the film? And for that matter why are people posting Devise in this post anyways this is a Domino release not a Devise release. But I know that the Devise relase has the Spirit Award across the bottom but Im not sure on Domino yet.

If someone can post a megaupload of the Domino release I will be downloading to find out.

Not sure why people are hating on this movie. I’m 29, male, not black and i dont watch Oprah and i’ve been wanting to se this movie for a looong time. I’m sure it’ll get nominated for quite a few awards.

UPDATE Ok the actual Domino release has the Spirit Award at the bottom blurred out and is barely noticeable If you look at the sample or the screenshots at the top you will see exactly what it looks like. Alot better than the Devise release if words on the release will bother you.

The movie was filmed and done when oprah signed on - she and perry only put their names to it just to finance a wider release - they signed on just as it hit sundance etc. so don’t let the oprah tag turn you off. I’m a mimi fan but don’t let that turn you off either, mariah’s only in it three times and only a handful of people will actually recognise her. There is definitely value in this movie, and there are some actual, honest LOLs between the :O moments.

Perhaps, they’ll make a movie about how semi-moderate kids with all the education systems available to them still manage to think they’re somehow oppressed by society and find a reason to get into gangs. A film about the Toronto ‘joke’ gangs should be appearing at the Toronto film festival. I’m sure the minorities or immigrants here of 2nd generation children feel oppressed so they emulate Compton kids, their parents must be proud after escaping persecution for their homeland, that they are able to raise entitled jerkoff North American style kids with ego issues.

If anything the only entitlement North American kids is to a affordable Post Secondary Education and free or affordable health care. A better society or a better future for everyone if the main things in life were actually affordable. Instead of being $150,000 dollars in the whole for an IVY league education.

Complain about that America, instead of being too busy getting on Obama’s case or bitching about Fox News. These seem to be the priorities these days since Bush left.

This movie is the front-row leader in Best Movie category for the Academy Awards. Ill be giving a watch purely because it has had absolute rave reviews and is supposed to be a great film. Maybe you might like it? Dont judge it too early…
