PreDB Help

This page will inform you about all the features of the ZeroSec Pre database and tell you why it is such a useful tool for both the biggest noobs and the leetest sceners.

What is “Pre”?

Pre is a rather generalizing word which relates to the Scene activity of announcing releases. Note that scene is in bold, because Pre is a scene specific phenomenon and is not employed by those who release on either usenet, torrents or DDL (Direct Download Link) providers. Pre helps keep the scene organized and structured, which is one of the major things that sets the scene apart from other “movements” in piracy.

When a Scene group has finished working on a release and packed it, its ready to be distributed. This means uploading it to a secure, private and high speed Scene FTP server, also simply reffered to as “sites” by Sceners (the highest rated sites are referred to as topsites) and then pre’ing the release. In a matter of seconds, scene groups can announce to the world spanning underground network known as the scene that their release is out and available (if spread right) at scene FTP sites.

What sets the Scene PreDB’s apart from the ZeroSec PreDB?

First of all, the ZeroSec predb is public, something which Scene predb’s are not. Also, ours is an HTTP pre, whereas regular predbs are accessible via IRC channels. This makes our pre a lot more user friendly and convenient for everyone.

What are the Features of the ZeroSec Pre?

Apart from the obvious: announcing the very latest scene releases, here are some of the neat features of this pre.

Categories

We have a very specific and advanced category system which lets you find whatever you’re looking for quickly. Certain releases are sorted by codec, others by type. Most movies for example are found in the XviD and x264 categories, but also the DVDR category which is prominent.

Searching

There are two ways to search the Pre Database. Either the regular search or the Advanced search. To use the regular search, simply enter keywords OR full release names if possible and click search. Just like a search engine, the more specific your keywords, the more specific your results will be.

Advanced Searching

Advanced searching allows you to search specific and multiple categories as well as GROUP searches.

A group search allows you to find all releases in the database that a specific scene group has released. If you know the exact name of the group, search regularly. If not, tick “lenient search”. Doing so will get you search results even if your keywords/letters are quite generic. For example entering only “Z” will find all groups with the letter Z in their names. You can also use % as a wildcard, so for example:

f%v —> fov

Inverting Colours

If you prefer a darker background, you can click on “Invert”. This will allow you to browse the Pre with a black background and white text.

Genres, File Info and other Stats

A lot of nice details can be found by letting your cursor hover over certain text.

Hovering over the categories of certain releases for example will show you the GENRE of the release (see image above).

Also immediately you will notice that almost all releases have a little file image next to them. Hovering over this will give you information on the size (in MB) of the release as well as the amount of files (original scene files).

If you hover over the release date of any release, it will tell you how long ago it was released.
