aAF have just released the DVDRip of ‘The Lena Baker Story’. From all accounts it is a dramatic emotional roller-coaster, a film for those who relish stories of hope and the struggle of a woman against the immense odds that face her being the only black woman to face the electric chair in Alabama. Adapted from Lela’s Phillips book of the same name, this film premiered at Cannes.
Quality: DVDRip so quality is good.
Synopsis: Based on true events, THE LENA BAKER STORY recounts one African-American womans struggle to rise above the challenges of her life, to face the choices she makes, and to ultimately triumph over her impossible circumstances.
As a young girl in the early 1900s Lena Baker (Tichina Arnold) and her mother (Beverly Todd) make ends meet by picking cotton in the hot southern sun of rural Cuthbert, Georgia. Lena grows up to work as a prostitute during the Roaring Twenties in an attempt to make enough money to head north and start anew. She is arrested before her dream is realized and sentenced to ten months of hard labor. Returning from this grueling experience and reuniting with her mother on the dusty road near their home, it is clear that Lena is changed forever.Years later, it seems that Lena has finally overcome her inner demons. She has three young children, she no longer drinks, she attends church regularly and helps her mother with their weekly laundry work. Just when it seems Lena may be able to forget the sorrow of her past, she is called to work for Elliot Arthur (Peter Coyote), a tyrannical white man known in Cuthbert for his angry disposition and drinking. Over time, Lena and Elliot develop a highly-charged relationship, filled with alcohol, cruelty and a troubling need for one another. Lena Baker was the first and only woman to be sentenced to death by the electric chair in the state of Georgia and was executed in 1945. She was pardoned posthumously in 2005.

Might sound good, but it’s not much chop people…
definitely made-for-tv
it’s quite corny (hammy on the gospel music in certain scenes) which is a shame…no idea how it got that rating (not based on many scores maybe)
I like a good drama, but this is pretty ordinary.

IMDB is based on only 30 votes and 1 comment….
having just watched it, let me warn anyone else…this is the biggest corniest hamfisted ball of cheese I’ve had to misfortune to sit through in many year..
Diabolically corny and melodramatic….worst of all, its a worthy topic which is boiled down to sad god bothering and woeful rnb syrup.
Avoid like the plague..

Can you do simple addition? She was executed in 1945 and was pardoned in 2005 does that make 40 years? Errr no it is 60.
And how can you compare this to Dragonball Evolution when it is a sci-fi action/adventure and this movie is true story drama, you are definitely backward!
Pugwash hasn’t got a clue what a good drama is so don’t bother taking heed to what he/she says. And makes 1st comment obviously before watching it as he says in second comment "having just watched it" over hour later. So somebody that says a movie is crap before even watching is always full of it!
8 out of 9 people agree with the review on imdb and the review seems to be from a professional and it says the movie is very good and i agree.
