This is a black day, the day they actually release this worthless piece of junk, called “The Reader”. Most of you ppl might think “wth is this guy on about?” But let me tell you, I actually read the original german script and it fucking sucked so badly, I put all my effort in writing a paper about how pathetic this novel is which eventually gave me the best grades ever in that subject, so uhm yeah go figure how much i hate it.

Quality: Video is a bit blurry and audio sounds somewhat hollow it’s definitely fine to watch but… well w/E lol

Synopsis: “The Reader” opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair.

Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from “The Odyssey”, “Huck Finn”, and “The Lady with the Little Dog.” Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken.

Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life – this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna’s past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both of their lives. “The Reader” is a haunting story about truth and reconciliation, about how one generation comes to terms with the crimes of another.

Just because you hated the script doesn’t mean the movie is bad. And many great scripts are turned into wretched movies.

Isn’t this a site about FILM? Why don’t you stick to releasing information about FILM and leave the script reviews for another site.

I think this is a very good post from Over; he has read the original script and is relaying his impression and opinion of it prior to introducing the film.

I will give this a watch, it does look very serious but let’s hope it doesn’t become inadvertently melodramatic or overly stylistic as such films tend to do.

Sounds like a million other WWII movies that we’ve seen before. Not all of WWII was about German Nazis and Jewish civilians. I do not see why films are not made about different perspectives from this era when we’ve already beat the genre to a pulp. I won’t be wasting time on this.

Why do so many people ramp on Holocaust films. If you don’t want to watch a film about the holocaust then don’t watch it. Nothing is stopping people from making movies about atrocities.

Leave the Jewish community alone. If the Muslims and Arab community want to make a Palestinian film nothing is stopping them from doing so. They’ve got more than enough money to bankroll the project.

I have not seen this movie,

the WWII genre does appeal to me, but this looks and sounds sh*t.haha.

But you have to look at the high ratings at IMDB, so that must mean something…

Actually this has received very mixed reviews…and after watching Doubt i would be suspicious also..

Yeh Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour-Hoffman..how could it be bad?

..but it was badly over-acted and the script clunky as hell..

Revolutionary Road was so damn good though..hard to pass on this, so I’ll see if the reviews were right again

I haven’t read the book but only watched the film just now and i can’t really see your point. (there wasn’t any beside: ”this worthless piece of junk”, ”it fucking sucked so badly”, ”how pathetic this novel is”).
There is a nice setup, how he gets together with her, she’s kinda freaky and you don’t know why, then later it comes out she’s a nazi and not even repentant. -> conflict between his connection to her and the trial/other left wing students. Later _the_ turning point that makes sense and explains the story itself. And finally he gets confronted with everything (Hannah, his own daughter, the jewish daughter) again.

Sure it’s not the most awesome movie ever but it definitely has a point and there are soooooo many worse movies so i just can’t see why exactly this one should suck so uber hard and not some other random one.
