XChat.v2.8.7d-PlanB16

PlanB have released the latest version of quite a popular IRC client, XChat. I personally use mIRC but XChat does seem to be a very good app. The changelog is simply “Released a little bug-fix update of XChat for Windows: 2.8.7d”.
Description: XChat is an IRC chat program for both Linux and Windows. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time, talk publicly, private one-on-one conversations etc. Even file transfers are possible. X-Chat has two good features of usability: colored nicknames and alignment by text as opposed to alignment by nicks. When you read text, it’s enough for eyes to notice the colors of nicknames, which they can do when they are focused to somewhere else near, and you may know at once who is writing. Colors are inobtrusive and there just 6 of them not to burden your short-term memory. And eyes don’t have to search for ends of nicknames, they can start reading text at once when text is aligned by the beginning.

It’s a nice client, but probably not the best. I’m just to lazy to switch.
Anyway, no need to download this, there is a FREE build available, just google for SILVEREX!

Typically when these IRC clients are released by scene groups they are meant to be internal and have special tweaks enabled to optimize and run the program better for their own use.

First of all, I think mIRC is much better than this.
X-Chat program is open source for Linux and is suposed to be open source for Windows also. The trick is that the author says he wants money if you want to get the program already compiled. If you don’t want to pay for it, you can download the source code and compile it for your own. Or you can also download a public build mantained by SILVEREX (as previously said), but that "unofficial" build is not updated very often.
In my opinion, it’s a strange decission by the authors, as if I have to pay for a Windows IRC client I would only think of mIRC, as it’s a LOT better than X-Chat or any IRC client out there.
So the only thing good in X-Chat (that it was free) is now lost. So I will never use it (or even think about using it) again.
salutes

As said, x-chat is free under linux. for windows, you have the source code so you could compile it or if don’t want to bother, google! There are people out there who have compiled it for windows so imo, thanks are due to the author.

Scene releasing free software!? That’s just plain stupid, to say the least…
January 7th, 2009 at 3:48 am
Forget it, i took a look at xchat’s webpage and windows binaries aren’t free anymore…So i take that back.

I use this client too. not because its good, but because it comes with linux. On my windows computers though, I use mIRC because it is vastly superior in every way.

What’s up with the anti-spam code number being 666 all the time?
oh, and thanks for xchat
January 7th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Windows version of X-Chat is not free because, they have to use commercial compilers to make the binary file for windows. If you don’t want to pay for it, compile it from the source code yourself then.

There are already people doing that for us, anyway i use weechat and donate to that project.
